This is a huge release for Atlus, officially releasing their seminary dungeon-crawling RPG for the first time outside of Japan.
This appears to be some form of emulation, not a remake. Thats perfect for a game like this, as not much of the original games design has been modified (graphics seem redrawn in some places; Im not sure if these are assets from the PSX release or new ones for his ed one). Since the emulator uses a virtual gamepad, nothing in the game is modified to accommodate for the iOS platform, allowing us Westerners to enjoy the original in all its glory.
That said, there are a couple nitpicks here. For one thing, text entry is limited to capital letters and other symbols/numbers. Possibly a limitation from the original SFC release. Another issue is the lack of indication in changing the screen orientation. The games online manual doesnt give a clear direction on changing the screen orientation (touching the game screen, instead of turning the device). I may have misread this, but is till want to bring it up.
Those aside, the game is faithfully rendered here, including its notorious difficulty. New players, brace yourself if youve never endured the series brutal difficulty!
A must-buy.
